March Sales Overview

Held live in London and streamed online, Apollo Art Auctions presented two back-to-back sales:

  • Fine Ancient Art, Antiquities & Jewellery – March 29

  • The Prince Collection – March 30

Together, the auctions realised a combined total of approximately £2 million (inclusive of buyer’s premium), with over 70% of lots sold across both sessions.

The Prince Collection: A Sale of Distinction

The spotlight was firmly on The Prince Collection, a distinguished private collection featuring fine sculptures, jewellery, seals, and objects from across the ancient civilizations.

This extraordinary sale included pieces with notable provenance, from renowned collections such as: David Giles, Fritz Biemann, Oliver Forge, JJ. Klejman, Jacques Billen, Naji Asfar, George Ortiz, Jack-Philippe Ruellan, Sir Nevile Lubbock, Professor Donald P. Hansen, Natasha Rambova, Gaston Maspero, the Groppi family, and Joseph Klein.

 

Auction Atmosphere and Bidding Trends

The sales were led by Dr. Ivan Bonchev and Marketa Odvarkova, featured highly engaged bidding from across the globe. Phones rang throughout, with international buyers vying against online collectors for key pieces.

The demand was evident across categories, with particularly strong interest in Egyptian antiquities, glassware, and classical artefacts. The market is also showing increasing momentum for ancient seals, weaponry, and sculptural marbles, indicating a dynamic shift in collector focus.
